(sigh) Just a brief skim for now (late night Japan), but 40 years teaching in Japan, ending my career by supplementing my pension as a teaching assistant in public schools ... and observing that nobody in Japan is taking responsibility for keeping the kids masked during classes, silenced during lunch. Rather, it is an acceleration of the Prussian model of public education on which modern Japan was built. I've finally come up with a descriptive name for the most common pedagogic approach here ... which similarly applies to two other institutions, the military and the penal system ... 'chain of command'.
Private schools and/or private tutors are a bit different. They always have been. I would argue that we are not being ushered into technocratic neo-feudalism because even since the Magna Carta, feudalism never went away. Self-entitled, narcissistic sociopaths have simply found other ways to game the systems. Dr. Ramani makes a good argument here ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8dhS0lMcxM, and A. Lobaczewski's 'Political Ponerology; The Science of Evil, Psychopathy, and the Origins of the Totalitarian State' do an even better job of pulling back the curtain than the current meme of Desmet's ''Mass Formation Psychosis''.
Another great article from Hugh - my question is why aren't more teachers etc talking about these harms. Where has peoples protective nature gone? Why have parents and professionals allowed this to happen? Fear/paranoia and a gullible belief in the government - lets hope this changes in 2023 and everyone gets to see who they really are. Selfish puppets with only their best interests at heart...

Well done Hugh.
Cheers from Japan, and a Merry Christmas to you.
